Catalan president Carles Puigdemont's lunchtime visit to Girona's Plaça del Vi today prompted groups who had gathered there to break into chants of "President, president!" and "Long live the Catalan Republic", while Puigdemont was also congratulated by many of those present for Friday's parliamentary proclamation of the Catalan Republic.

After having lunch, Puigdemont and his wife, Marcela Topor, took a stroll through central Girona, and found themselves accompanied by numerous local residents.
