The Spanish prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, has been greeted outside his meeting this evening with Catalan president Quim Torra by hundreds of protests shouting in favour of independence and the release of the political prisoners.

Also waiting for the prime minister was at least one supporter of union, waving a Spanish flag. No incidents came up.

The format of the meeting has also finally been revealed. First, the two heads of government met. At the same time, their deputies, Carmen Calvo and Pere Aragonès, and ministers Meritxell Batet and Elsa Artadi were meeting separately. The two groups then joined together.
