A number of agents of Spain's National Police have checked in to Hotel Gaudí in the centre of Reus, in the south of Catalonia, less than three weeks before the 1st October independence referendum. The agents, sent to Catalonia, arrived this Tuesday afternoon.

They got out of their vans and entered the hotel. In one hand, they carried suitcases or rucksacks and, in the other, long guns. They also parked at least seven vans in the car park behind the Civil Guard headquarters in the city.

The presence of all these police vehicles and armed agents around the centre of the city has surprised and annoyed many residents
