Clams, cockles, peanuts, mint chewing gum, doughnuts (both ring and chocolate-covered), ham (serrano and cooked), isotonic drinks, soft drinks and alcoholic ones like beer, wine, gin and rum. These are some of the products that make up the catering service in the planes and café of Group 45 of the Spanish air force, based at Torrejón de Areoz (Madrid) and among whose aircraft are the Airbus A310 and Falcon 900B used by the king and members of the Spanish government.

This is revealed in the open tender from the General Air Command of the Air Force (link in Spanish), as first reported by Spanish newspaper El Confidencial Digital, to serve passengers on the planes for VIPs. The annual cost is some 120,000€ (£107,000, $141,000) paid from the state's budget. According to the newspaper, this bid is also accompanied by a specific catering contract for the king and members of the Spanish government.

No Catalan wines

In the section on wines, all costing between 12 and 40 euros (£11-36, $14-47), none are of Catalan designation of origin (DO), nor is there any cava (Catalan sparkling wine), or champagne. They do include, however, Albamar 2016 (DO Rias Baixas) and Abalo Méndez 2015 (DO Rias Baixas) for white, and Ramírez de Ganuza 2009 (DO Rioja), Arzuaga Reserva 2011 (DO Ribera del Duero), Dinastía Vivanco Reserva (DO Rioja), Cillar de Silos Crianza (DO Ribera del Duero), Ciegan 2012 (DO Rioja) and Cesar Muñoz Vitisfera (DO Ribera del Duero) for red, although there is the option of substituting for others of "equivalent" quality.

Seagrams and Bombay Sapphire

As for spirits, the contract proposes brandy brands like Carlos I, Gran Duque de Alba, Carlos III, Magno and Torres X; gins like Bombay Sapphire and Seagrams; rums like Brugal Extraviejo and Brugal Añejo; Absolut vodka and Cardhu, Chivas and Johnnie Walker Black Label whisky.

In the technical form, up to 120 products are listed with 155 specific brands mentioned. The requirements state the products have to be supplied within 24 hours of the order being made. It also says that rejected articles will have to be replaced within four hours with no refund.
